Questions Candidates Ask
Where should I start?
Take the free practice case first. Your domain scores show whether you need more case practice, flashcard review or coaching on specific areas.
When does the case bank open?
Soon. Join the waitlist and you'll get founding-member pricing and an email the day it opens.
Is the exam changing?
Yes. NBCC is updating the NCMHCE for exams taken on or after July 1, 2027, with 10 cases and a new content outline. Exams before that date follow the current 11-case format. Our cases are tagged to both outlines so you practice for the version you'll take.
What's the difference between the live group and tutoring?
The live group meets weekly for six weeks with up to six clinicians and works through cases together. Tutoring is one-on-one and focuses only on your weakest domains. Many candidates add a tutoring session or two to case bank practice.
Who writes the cases?
Licensed clinicians who supervise pre-licensed counselors. Every case uses DSM-5-TR criteria and comes with a rationale for each answer.
